Seltzer Can Rag

Oh mama strike me down
there’s something rotten in this town
With your sharp teeth and your evening gown
might you show me around?
In the house where I used to reside
there’s a blood red sign in the yard outside
The owner sits there, mummified
saluting the flag with such blind pride
In the town square there’s a band
serenading the people with dixieland
On jugs, washboards, and seltzer cans
back by popular demand
I don’t recognize a thing
and I don’t know the songs that the kids all sing
And the way they make ‘em swing
if it should please the king
Oh me, Oh my
I've never seen the river this high
Oh my, Oh me
Watch the land become the sea
They ripped up the old quilt
that hung in the tavern that your ancestors built
The sheriff’s hand is on his pistol hilt
and I think some blood might be spilt
I wasn’t gone so long
just took a little nap, is that so wrong?
Now king mob’s like old king kong
and I don’t think I belong!
Oh me, Oh my
I've never seen the river this high
Oh my, Oh me
Watch the land become the sea
